The recently registered Liberal Reforming Party (PLR) started to constitute local organizations and to elect their leaders. The members travel to settlements and have meetings with voters. In the public debate “Priorities of the political class and Moldovan society in an electoral year. Position of the parliamentary parties”, held by IPN Agency, MP Ana Gutu, of the PLR, said that this process can be associated with a pre-election campaign.
Ana Gutu stated that as the PLR is a parliamentary party, it will focus on the governance priorities in the debates. “We must complete the initiated projects by the end of term. Two major events are set to take place in 2014 – the liberalization of the visa regime and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, which will determine the country’s progress in a crucial way,” said the lawmaker.
The government’s priorities will center on these events. “This week we intend to stage hearings in Parliament so as to explain what the Association Agreement is and to tell the people about the expected changes in order to prevent speculations,” stated Ana Gutu.
Besides the association with the EU, the government has several more important legislative projects. “The reform of the prosecution service is a priority for all the coalition parties. It can be initiated by modifying a number of laws, but cannot be concluded owing to the impossibility of amending the Constitution. We hope we will be able to do it in the next mandate. The Education Code is also a priority. We also have to adopt a law of the anticorruption package, concerning the immunity of judges,” said the MP.
Ana Gutu underlined that the Communist MPs voted no law of the over 40 intended to facilitate the rapprochement between Moldova and the EU, including concerning the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans. “Moreover, they radicalized the situation and brought people with drums in Parliament. The Communists did nothing, but now say that they have nothing against the liberalized regime,” she added.
As to the situation in Ukraine, she said that the regional context is now very difficult. “Before the escape of Yanukovych (ex Ukrainian President – e.n.), the forces in the Transnistrian region banned Moldovan officials from going through the border crossing pints on the Nistru. After his escape, they calmed down and withdrew. As we have a foreign army on our territory, we are involved. Colleagues from the EU call us and ask what the spirits are like. Russia included the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU in the agenda of the EU – Russia meeting of April. What connection has Russia with this?” asked Ana Gutu.
The parties of the Pro-European Coalition are preparing a common statement on the situation in the neighboring country, which will be submitted to Parliament for adoption.
The debate “Priorities of the political class and Moldovan society in an electoral year. Position of the parliamentary parties” is the 27th of the series of debates “Development of political culture by public debates”. IPN Agency has staged these debates for the third year, with the support of the German foundation Hanns Seidel and in cooperation with Radio Moldova.
