The largest part of the population is dissatisfied with the reforms implemented by the current government and believes that Moldova follows a wrong path. This attitude of the population to reforms and the chosen development course seriously affects the image of the political parties in society, chairman of the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova Victor Mocanu said in the public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” that was organized by IPN.

The sociologist said the parties’ image plays a very important role in elections, while the last poll shows that confidence in the political parties is at the lowest level. The people are not satisfied with the development course and the reforms done by the government. They consider that very tough reforms are implemented in a situation of economic crisis, which affect the economic situation of every family. 70% of the respondents want real reforms that would bring about changes and that would be discussed and aimed at the people, not at serving personal interests. 73% of the Moldovans are concerned about poverty, prices, low salaries, corruption, etc. In this respect, the stated opinions affect the image of the parties.

Victor Mocanu said the polls show that society is not informed about the programs aimed at coming closer to the EU. The people consider that if Moldova joins the EU, positive changes will automatically take place in such areas as infrastructure development, medicine, culture, science, corruption combating. “The people do not know much about the accession to the EU. They should be informed about this process,” said the Doctor in Sociology.

According to Victor Mocanu, the people may remain disappointed and frustrated after the Vilnius Summit owing to the lack of information and to misinformation. “Studies show the people understood that if we joint the EU, the roads will be repaired, the streets will be lit, and there will be built water supply systems. The greater are the expectations, the greater can be the disillusions and frustrations,” he added.
